Oh, Enron, we but barely knew ye…

so I’m sitting at lunch today, and I end up sitting next to some business types, and man are they heated because supposedly, from what I overheard, they submitted their figures to their superiors within their corporate offices and had them returned by the men in the ivory towers because “the numbers aren’t right”. From what I eavesdropped these guys reported actual figures to their bosses for their labor costs, expenses, payroll, etc. and their bosses told them,”No, it’s wrong, you need to fix it.” and these guys are bitching at one another because how do you “fix” something that is honest, and they’re hassling and hustling, and trying to fudge numbers and alter formulas to improve their results, and basically getting nowhere. The whole thing made me disgusted, because I remember my stint in corporate america, and it was eerily familiar to me, and left me wondering when the rest of America will wise up that there are plenty of other pursuits greater than that of the god-almighty dollar.
