In spite of the freezing temperatures Saturday, I was up and moving by 5 am, and was in my studio working by 7am. Friends of mine in Havana, FL have a house in the country with a great barn in the backyard, and are allowing me to use it as my working studio. I spent a good twelve hours there, Saturday, and it was a welcome reminder of exactly what has been missing in my life of late. Paints, brushes, Good music (Woodstock 25th Box set), and some good old solitary confinement while I work. I zoned out completely allowing myself to be consumed by the work at hand. My mind cleared and I entered that familiar meditative/vegetative state where I was oblivious to the world. Best way to lose twelve hours that I’ve found so far!

Yard work does the same for me. Get started, lose your mind in your work, and forget about all your other problems in life. I finally completed repairing my “SURFER” stained glass piece. Lightly sanded the solid walnut frame to remove dirt and old tape residue. Refinished with a light coat of same stain, and after drying, completed with a good coat of MINWAX polish wax and sealer. I designed two(2) stands to support the piece (as I did not have an open space or a window large enough), finished in same stain color, and wired with flourescent backlighting. The piece now sits atop our entertainment center and looks great. I have had a lot of compliments. It felt great to get it done and have it back out on display.I can’t believe we moved here in 2001 and I finally got to it.

In my last reply, I left out the most important fact that I had to remove 3 broken pieces of glass work, replace the lead came, resolder the lead, and repack the glass with “black soot GAP 33 compound” . The most difficult part was matching glass that I used when I did the piece 25 years ago. German hammered, french Wiszmac, and silted blue sky. I finally found all that I needed in Brunswick,GA.This all had to be done before I even started refinishing the frame. But you know what?……The solitude, the frustations, the hard work, and the headaches….made me feel Fantastic. I miss it alot, and wished I had the excess time in my life to do more. There is no value you can put on it when it comes from your own hands.
